Discover Your Naked Self at Florida’s Cypress Cove

On our nude journey over the past 25 years, my wife and I have enjoyed many naked vacations (or nakations) to a variety of clothing optional and nudist locations large and small. We’ve dropped our bathing suits and our inhibitions at many exciting, tropical destinations in Bora Bora, Jamaica, St. Martin, Miami, San Diego, and Mexico to name a few. We’ve experienced the relaxation and joy that can only be experienced nude with someone you love in a safe and friendly place. It’s amazing how social nudity can be such a wonderful way to meet new friends and connect with your spouse in ways you never imagined in a clothed, covered-up world.

We would gladly go back to any of these locations for another trip, but it was our first trip to Cypress Cove in Florida that reminded me of a simple truth of nude recreation: “Anything you can do clothed, you can do naked and it will always be more fun, more enjoyable and more memorable.” It was at Cypress Cove that we re-discovered our naked selves and why personal nudity is such a simple and lasting reward.

Reading by the pool and soaking up the sunshine is a perfect activity at Cypress Cove but the resort offers so much more to do.

Cypress Cove is a 300-acre property that includes a large lake, recreational facilities and a small residential community. Cypress Cove positions itself as a resort featuring 84-hotel villa rooms, full RV and primitive campgrounds, tennis courts, two restaurants, bar, gym and even an onsite beautician/salon. You can even go golfing, play tennis, canoeing and fishing. And just like most resorts yes, you can lay out and bake in the sun beside one of their two large pools or soak in their hot tubs. You can sip your frozen colada or beer while floating naked in the pool.

All are great features if you are considering a nude vacation but there is another reason I would recommend Cypress Cove for any interested couples looking for their first social nude experience in a safe and welcoming environment. At Cypress Cove you’ll see and experience what life is like truly living naked. Let me explain.

Enjoy walking on the residential streets at Cypress Cove wearing nothing more than your shoes and a smile.

Friends of our invited us to spend the weekend with them at Cypress Cove. They had been there several times before and loved it but not for the reasons why they loved Couples San Souci or an all inclusive nudist resort. We learned exactly what they meant late in the afternoon on our first day when we retreated from the pool and went back to our hotel room to exchange our towels and books for a stroll. We walked literally down main street by well-kept homes of all sizes and styles wearing only our shoes. We saw residents out jogging, riding bicycles, walking dogs, gardening, painting and other everyday activities wearing nothing more than a smile. And yes, everyone was very friendly and social. We walked naked for miles safely up and down the streets of Cypress Cove surrounded by others enjoying the nudist lifestyle.

It’s hard to explain but to me, this is why more couples need to experience social nudity. It’s not about getting over the fear of taking your clothing off. It’s about how you feel when your naked and exposed: relaxed and happy.

To the uninitiated, this may sound absolutely anxiety producing. Being naked on a beach or by the pool is one thing, but parading through the streets wearing nothing with no privacy can feel like a big leap but in all honesty, it’s here that we were reminded that anything you can do clothed, you can do naked and it will always be more fun, more enjoyable and more memorable. We took a long walk through Cypress Cove nude every morning and afternoon for the next four days and that is only one of many memories that stand out from our trip. We lived nude and loved it.

Our blog is about encouraging couples to try social nudity. For my wife and me, we’ve found it to be a wonderful bonding point. A shared experience that is better because we are naked together. We have discovered how wonderful it is to spend time together outside naked. I’m not talking about sexual intimacy. We are not touching each other. That’s not appropriate outside of the privacy of your bedroom. We are just spending time and hanging out with other naked couples who like to do the same thing.

Which is why I would willingly encourage any couple interested in seeing what nude recreation is all about to go to Cypress Cove to find out for themselves. It’s a large property with a lot to offer. Here’s what to expect:

Paradise is Found at Cypress Cove. Image used from CypressCoveResort.com website.

When you pass by the front gate, you’ll leave the clothed world and immediately be transported into a place where you wear what’s comfortable based on the weather. And yes, you’ll see a lot of tan bottoms, boobs and bodies immediately. You’re not in Kansas anymore Dorothy and that’s okay because you’re in safe place. Nudist understand that when you’re naked, you’re vulnerable which is why there are strict rules such as no photography without consent, no suggestive attire and absolutely no public intimacy or sexual touching. There is a time and place and that’s in the privacy of your own bedroom.

Beach by the Cypress Cove lake. Image from CypressCoveResort.com website.

Cypress Cove is a family nudist property and protecting children is of the utmost importance. Once you arrive at the front office, you will be required to check in and to share your personal identification for a background check. A clothed, staff member will welcome you and go over the rules, map and activities, just like any resort, except everyone coming in and out of the office will be naked or wearing almost nothing. If it’s your first time, it will be shocking and does take some getting used to but one thing you’ll quickly discover about nudist, they’re not embarrassed so why should you be? Just remember to keep eye contact and not to stare just as you would in any clothed, social situation. It’s funny, the only time I’m uncomfortable at a nudist property is when I’m naked and the people around me are wearing clothing.

From here, you’ll take a tour of the property and see the lake and the boats. You’ll see the tennis courts and the golf course. You’ll see the pools and restaurants. And you’ll probably be taken to your room where your nude experience will officially begin. The rooms are comfortable, quiet and clean. Many were recently updated and include fridge, microwave and a full bathroom and sitting area.

Updated rooms at Cypress Cove. Image by Oyster.com and used on CypressCoveResort.com website.

It’s in the privacy of your own room that you’ll take off your clothing and first ask yourself if you’re ready for this. You are. My wife recommends for women to bring a wrap that you can wear till you’re comfortable walking around Cypress Cove naked. You will always have a towel with you for sitting and it doubles nicely as a wrap if needed. Definitely wear lots of suntan lotion (put it on in the room while you’re thinking about it especially if you’ve never done this before) and I recommend a comfortable hat. Then take your spouse’s hand, a good book and open the door and feel the sunshine and warm Florida breeze on your naked body. More importantly, note that no one screamed. The sky did not fall. The world didn’t stop moving.

Now comfortably walk to the pool and get naked. Don’t wait. You’ll see very quickly that any fear or anxiety goes away almost as quickly as you shed your wrap. It’s replaced by this wonderful feeling of freedom and relaxation. Enjoy it. Just like a first kiss, it will only happen once but you’ll find it to be intoxicating, which is why we believe you’ll want to do it again and again. Don’t take my word for it. A German TV station did a story about nude travel and Cypress Cove. Even if you don’t speak German, you’ll see what Cypress Cove is really all about.

Cypress Cove has two beautiful pools. Image from CypressCoveResort.com website.

From there go experience Cypress Cove. Enjoy the lake in a canoe or paddleboat. Enjoy the sunrise over the lake and walk in the sand. Head over to the tennis courts or learn how to play pickleball. What about volleyball or golf? It’s all here. Head to lunch or dinner where no shirt, no shoes is no problem because most people won’t be wearing anything except a towel to sit on.

Find a comfortable spot by the pool and start socializing or pick your own little quiet spot of heaven by the lake or away from everyone else. This is your time so spend it the way you want to do it. Just enjoy the time together. You’ll quickly realize how you look naked really doesn’t matter because everyone around you is perfectly average. We all have something we would change but when it’s all on display, nothing really stands out.

If you’re still anxious, liquid courage helps too. You can buy both soft drinks and alcoholic beverages at the main office or at one of the onproperty restaurants. It should be noted that while I was expecting prices to be high since the audience is captive, food and drinks were very reasonably priced at Cypress Cove.

One other important reason why Cypress Cove is an excellent place to experience social nudity for the first time. Other than the pools and hot tubs, the property is clothing optional. We saw a few couples who were here for the first time and it was obvious they were getting used to it. They found spots not in crowded areas by the pool but by the lake or in the green space between the two pools. One couple stands out in my mind. Throughout the day, the look of surprise on their faces slowly changed to smiles. They went from him laying naked on his stomach and her removing only her bikini top while covering up with a magazine to both of them walking from their chairs to the bar and then to the pool with nothing on and loving every minute of it.

On a cooler morning, a warmer top maybe necessary but that doesn’t mean you have to cover up entirely.

Cypress Cove has a wonderful bonus for first timers: a half price coupon for your first visit. From our experience, the property is very reasonably priced and only 40 minutes from Orlando and 30 minutes from Disney. It’s conveniently located.

Everything I’ve just shared will probably be the anxiety producing at first and yes there will be moments. You’ll have questions too like what do you wear to a clothing optional restaurant? (Most women wear sundresses while mean wear short sleeve button down shirts and nothing else).

Sound like the place for you to try nude recreation with your spouse? What I didn’t talk about though will be truly memorable for you both. It is the first time you walk with your spouse from your room to the lake or pool wearing nothing but a smile. Or go to the lake and go fishing or boating nude. Or talk with another nude couple while playing tennis or at the bar. You will feel free. You will feel comfortable and relaxed and it is wonderful.

Do what is comfortable for you and do it together so you’ll both share in the moment. Our one suggestion though is at some point during your visit walking the entire property, hand-in-hand because you simply can’t walk naked down the middle of a road through a community just anywhere. Cypress Cove isn’t just anywhere. It’s special.

One other important suggestion for the first time, newbie nude couples visiting Cypress Cove. We took an Uber from the airport to Cypress Cove in Kissimmee. It takes about 45 minutes. At this point, going to a nudist property is no big deal for us but to someone (like our Uber driver) who had never done it before, it can be an ordeal. Our driver, who did not speak much English, asked us three times is we were absolutely sure we knew where we were going and was this the correct place. He might have been of Latin origins but he turned every shade of red when we he drove us by numerous naked men and women from the front gate to the office. He was friendly and professional throughout but we could tell he was beyond embarrassed. We told this story to several other couples who told us stories of their taxi and Uber/Lyft drivers dropping them off at the front gate, unwilling to drive any further.

Our suggestion, spare yourself any embarrassment for you or your driver and call Martin at Martin Transportation. Martin is a Brit who has called Florida home for more than 10 years. For $50, he’ll pick you up at Orlando International Airport and drop you off at Cypress Cove 45-60 minute later. He’ll also take you back to the airport for $45. An Uber is only a little less but the real reason to call Martin is because he lives at Cypress Cove and has enjoyed the nudist lifestyle for many years. For first timers he can tell you all about the wonderful trip you’re about to enjoy at Cypress Cove. Call Martin at 407-353-5346. There are other options including another driver who lives on the property. We met Martin and liked him a lot but do call Cypress Cove and ask for other options too if you’re interested.

Let us know if you have any questions or if you’ve been to Cypress Cove what you’d recommend first time couples try for themselves. We really enjoyed it. Any first timers care to share their experience? We just discovered Cypress Cove but we’ll be back.

That Naked Feeling

We’re headed on vacation in a week. Just a quick getaway for my wife and me. We’re headed to Cypress Cove in Kissimmee for the first time. I’ve heard good things and considering that we live in the Midwest U.S. and haven’t felt 75+ degrees since October, understandably, we can’t wait to go.

Image of Cypress Cove taken from their website at: https://www.cypresscoveresort.com/

Yes, I’ll be writing a blog post about our experiences and why (or why not) Cypress Cove would be a great destination for the first time or new naturist/nudist couple. Today though I woke up extra excited for our trip. It’s still a few days away but for me, the trip has already begun in my head.

While most of our friends don’t know too much about the naked vacations my wife and I go on throughout the year, the few that do always hit on the same topics. “Isn’t it really sexual?” Nope, not at all. I know it sounds impossible, but it is actually not a sexually charged environment at all. It feels more freeing and open. No one is judging one another. It’s all about body acceptance and enjoying the day in your own skin. I’ll explain more later.

“Isn’t it embarrassing walking around naked with your privates hanging out?” It’s actually pretty comfortable and when you’re naked and everyone around you is naked too, you really don’t notice. I’ll admit, at first it was unnerving walking around without clothing but that lasted all of about 15 minutes. And surprisingly, when you’re around other naked people, you really don’t notice it after awhile. Your skin is your “clothing.”

“What do you do all day when you’re naked?” Well, it’s really what won’t you do… which brings me to the purpose of this post. I can’t wait to get to Cypress Cove. I’m excited to see their property because they offer so much to do. Yes my wife loves laying by the pool and tanning in the sun or skinny dipping in the pool. I do too. But for me, it’s all that plus everything else that you can only experience when you are at a safe, clothing optional/nude property and surrounded by other like-minded individuals. Let me explain because here’s where a naked vacation is unlike any other trip you’ve ever had.

Beach at Cypress Cove. Image taken from their website by Dan Erwin. https://www.cypresscoveresort.com/

We’ll land in Orlando and Uber to Cypress Cove. As soon as we walk past the check in/ guard post, we’ll know we are somewhere different than the outside world. I’m expecting tan bottoms and boobs everywhere. We’ll get the tour from the front desk and we’ll see all of the main points of interest like the lake or the pools, or the restaurant in Cypress Cove that we will experience over the next few days. We’ll see naked men and women of all ages, colors and sizes doing what they do mid-morning when the sun is out and the temperatures are high enough to be comfortably nude outside. It won’t be shocking. It won’t be embarrassing. It will be our normal for the next few days.

Finally, we’ll get to our room. We’ll open up our luggage but instead of unpacking, we’ll be undressing. We’ll be taking off the jeans, shirts, jackets, underwear and other clothing that define us when we’re at home and in our community. We’ll trade them for tanning lotion and sunblock, sunglasses, hat and sandals (and a towel to sit on). Last time we were on a nude vacation, my wife was undressed before I had even opened my suitcase.

And then we’ll hit the moment that I’ve been dreaming about. The thought that hit me when I woke up this morning. The moment when we open the door and walk down the steps from our room. The moment when we step outside our lodging and feel the sun on our faces and a breeze across our nude bodies. The moment we walk naked and freely across the property holding our towels and each ours hands as we walk to the pool.

I can’t describe the feeling you experience when you’re naked and truly comfortable for the first time (or the first time in a while). It’s liberating. It’s freeing. It’s natural and it’s contagious. It’s the same feeling I’ll get when we walk the property and say “hello” to the other guests and residents. It’s the same feeling I’ll get when I go kayaking or try a paddleboard on the lake. It’s the same feeling when I go to the hot tubs and pools. It’s the same feeling when I walk on one of the nature trails and listen to the birds while looking for wildlife. It’s also the same feeling when my wife and I sit outside and enjoy lunch together next to the pool.

Beach at Cypress Cove. Image from their website: https://www.cypresscoveresort.com/

A nude vacation is just that, leisure time meant to be enjoyed in the nude. And the feeling I get when I’m there is hard to explain but really is wonderful. Until you’ve experienced a nude vacation or nakation, you really don’t know this feeling, but when you do, you’ll know it for the rest of your life. It is addictive.

Notice I didn’t say anything about intimacy or sexual touching. This goes to the question we hear first, that our naked vacation time must be very sexual. It isn’t sexual but it is bonding and close. Public sexual intimacy or touching is not acceptable at a reputable nudist property like Cypress Cove and will not be tolerated. We wouldn’t come back if it was happening in the open either. It’s not why we go on naked vacations. There is a time and a place and that’s in the privacy of your own room.

The Kiss by Auguste Rodin (1840-1917). Great artwork but not appropriate at a nudist property. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Kiss_(Rodin_sculpture)

So as the countdown to our nude vacation comes to a close, we invite you to discover your own nude vacation and experience the nude feeling firsthand. You’ll see what I mean. To find a nudist property for vacation or near your home, try the American Association of Nude Recreation (AANR) website.

Let us know what questions you have and look back for our trip report on Cypress Cove sometime in the next month.

Headed to Hidden Beach Resort for your Nakation? 10 Suggestions to Make Your Naked Stay Even Better

Together time is naked time at Hidden Beach Resort in Mexico

There are a lot of great nude and clothing optional resorts, B&Bs, and vacation hot spots available for couples looking to try a great nakation. My wife and I have been lucky enough to spend time at several of nude resorts and beaches throughout North America and the Caribbean. While there are many properties we like for a variety of reasons, Hidden Beach Resort in Mexico remains one of our favorites.

Our room at Hidden Beach Resort

There is a lot to like about Hidden Beach Resort. What could be better than a nude resort (not clothing optional) where you can walk out of your room in the morning, have breakfast, lay in the sun, swim in the pool, enjoy lunch by the pool, have a cocktail or 10 more, sit in the hot tub, enjoy a candlelight dinner, enjoy a variety of evening activities and never put on a stitch of clothing all day?  My wife and I went 36 hours once without putting on anything until we finally decided to go to one of Hidden Beach’s sister resorts for dinner (sorry, shirt and pants required for guys, dress, skirt or shorts for women).

My wife and I started this blog more than five years ago to give advice and suggestions to couples looking to try social nudity. We wanted to share our experiences so that other couples can explore nude vacations and a relaxing time together. We try to help couples know fact from fiction or as we like to say, “the naked truth.” It has been a wonderful getaway for the two of us where we can enjoy each other’s company while relaxing in the buff. We’ve made great friends and have wonderful memories but like most first timers, we didn’t know what to expect the first time we went to a nude resort.

img_5431-1

So what is it like? Relaxing, freeing and fun are the first thoughts that come to mind. What isn’t it? Sexual. Believe it or not, it’s not a sexual experience and most reputable clothing optional/nude locations have a code of conduct that guests must sign. No sexual or intimate touching or contact is allowed. There is time and place for everything and it is in your room after a naked day in the sun.

We found Hidden Beach 12 years ago and have loved it every time we’ve gone back. We just completed our fifth visit and we will be back. It’s expensive. In fact, it’s probably at the highest price point of any of the resorts we’ve stayed. I am working on another post comparing Hidden Beach Resort and Couples Sans Souci (both wonderful properties offering great nude experiences and great for first timers) but on our most recent visit to Hidden Beach my wife and I started a list of the must do activities for you and your partner during your stay. Some of these are on their website but must are not. Our list goes beyond simply sitting on the beach or lounging by the pool naked and talking with new friends all day (which is great too!).

We love going to Hidden Beach Resort to spend time together naked and enjoy meeting other couples. Here are the activities we look forward to every visit. Most are done without swimsuits and clothing but a few require us to cover up (bummer).

Regardless if this is your first visit to Hidden Beach or your 20th, here are our list of activities we recommend doing during your stay:

img_5195-1

1. Sleep With the Fishes – Hidden Beach has ten or so wonderful palapas on the beach. Think of these as daybeds with thatched roofs. They are wonderfully comfortable and perfect for lounging naked during the day. Late at night, we put on our Hidden Beach robes, grab three towels each and find a comfy palapa to snuggle on while listening to the waves washing up on the beach and the breeze flowing through the palm trees. It is a truly wonderful experience. We usually fall asleep and wake up early in the morning (3am several times) before returning to our room. We were really lucky to have a full moon during our last visit to Hidden Beach.

2. A Naked Table for Two – Nude dining isn’t for everyone but there is something wonderfully casual about enjoying a wonderful meal at a restaurant where no shirt, no shoes, no suit (swimsuit or otherwise) means great service and good times. Seriously sitting down to a candlelight meal and only wearing a wrap (my wife) or nothing at all but sitting on a towel (me) and being treated to a fabulous meal with other naked diners is meal you can only enjoy here.

3. Fish Food – Hidden Beach is a wonderful property but unfortunately the beach really isn’t much to speak of.  Sand no. Coral yes. While we wish we could go for a skinny dip you really can’t go very deep into the water without shoes. Fortunately where there is coral there are fish and throw them some bread and you’ll have a school of fish swimming around you in no time. This is one of my favorite activities.

img_5362
Sunrise

4. Rise and Shine – Just as much fun as sleeping outside on the beach is greeting the sun as it rises above the horizon. There is nothing like sitting in the early morning light wearing only a towel or robe and then feeling the warming rays of the sun. Before long off comes the robe and your body is being kissed by the early morning sun. It’s a wonderful start to the day.

5. Naked Time at the Spa – The El Dorado Seaside Suites opened the incredible Naay Spa offering all kinds of spa and massage services. For two hours on Sunday (5-7pm), the spa’s hydrotherapy room opens exclusively for guests of Hidden Beach.  What better way to enjoy water treatments than naked with your nude friends. We had a blast and plan on doing it again next time.

6. Beach Massage – How do you make a great massage even better? You’re already naked. So enjoy an expert massage on the beach with the sun and the surf around you. This is a must do for my wife every visit.

img_5261
Yes you have to put on clothing at the other resorts, but that doesn’t mean you might not see a moon.

7. Talk a Hike – Perhaps the best part of Hidden Beach is that it’s a small intimate boutique resort surrounded by two huge adults-only (and clothed) resorts: the El Dorado Seaside Suites and Sensimar. While it literally takes less than five minutes to hike from one side of Hidden Beach to the other, you can wander around the immaculate and landscaped properties next door. Sidenote: Hidden Beach guests can go to the other resorts but their guests can’t go to Hidden Beach. While we don’t like putting on clothing to hike in the morning, we love to explore the beach and resort properties. We do it every morning. And just because you have to cover up, doesn’t mean you have to cover all the way up. 🙂

img_5415.jpg
Let’s go Rock and Roll

8. Naked Rock and Roll – Who doesn’t like great live music? Now dance the night away with a Mexican band performing your favorite covers. Don’t know what to wear? Nothing is always in style or wear the revealing club outfits you’d never wear otherwise.  Loud music and dancing with friends can’t be beat.

swingbar

9. Take a Swing at the Cotorros Bar – There are some fantastic bars at the El Dorado and Sensimar resorts. Yes you have to get dressed and wear clothing but what could be better than great drinks, good people and swings. We spend hours swinging back and forth while enjoying great conversations and drinks.

img_5191
Perfect Full moon at Hidden Beach Resort.

10. Take a Late Night Skinny Dip – There is something refreshing about skinny dipping in the pool or relaxing in a hot tub under the warm Mexican night sky. To me swimming nude in the pool or soaking naked in a hot tub makes me feel relaxed and young. With my wife beside me and a drink in our hands, this is the ultimate end to a great day.

Every couple we’ve ever met at a nude resort or beach has their favorite activities to do together in the buff. Regardless if it’s Saint Martin, Palm Springs, Florida, Caribbean or Hidden Beach Resort, for us our time together naked is peaceful and relaxing. Honeymoons, anniversaries or just time away, a naked vacation really is something everyone should experience. We hope more couples discover it and create their own nude activities list to share with other couples who just might want to try a nakation of their own.

Please note that this blog is our opinion only. We were not paid by Hidden Beach Resort, El Dorado or Karisma Hotels for our post. Not that we wouldn’t like another trip back soon. 🙂

Happy Nude Year!

Another year has ended and we have 365 days ahead of us to make the most of the new year. It’s another year full of potential to make a difference or to do things differently than before. It’s when we all start even with a blank slate. It’s another year to make the world or at least our little place in it better.

So what would I like to give everyone this year? I know asking for world peace is too much. Probably the same with making sure no one goes hungry? I wish all of that was truly possible, but in this day and age, that’s asking too much.

So what do I ask for this year? I’d like everyone to experience a naked day. A day without clothing to play and relax and enjoy the warmth of the sun all over your body. A naked day in the buff to see what it feels like to be free. A naked day without judgement from others and a day without blame. A naked day without body shaming. A naked day where you’re not too fat or too skinny. Too pale or too dark. A day when you’re perfect just the way you are right now. A day where simply being naked is simply enough.

A naked day to make new nude friends and to realize it’s more important to judge someone by their character and personality rather than what they wear. A naked day to talk to someone who when you’re both nude appears to be the same as you. A naked day to spend time with your spouse, your partner, your friends or your family.

nudewalk
A naked walk in the woods is one of my favorite things to do. From Pinterest

A naked day to do what you want to do, just without your clothing. A naked day to take a walk in the woods.A naked day to go skinny dipping and to feel like a child again. A naked day to fall asleep in the sun. A naked day to read a book or the newspaper. A naked day to enjoy a drink. A naked day to enjoy a bite to eat. A naked day to do what you enjoy most. A day to let it all hang out without a worry in the world.

Why do I want to give everyone a naked day? It’s simple really. If we remove our clothes and our inhibitions, we are all the same… naked and pure. We are all equal. It’s a day when you don’t need to worry about what others think. It’s a day to be one with yourself and nature.

For more than 20 years, my wife and I have enjoyed nude vacations, beaches, resorts, clubs, and time together. We’ve made friends. We’ve made wonderful memories. We’ve enjoyed ourselves and realized it’s not a sexual experience but rather a deeply emotional one that brings us together. We are better off because of the time we’ve spent nude together and the people we have met while we’re nude.

My wife enjoying Haulover Beach
The Ingredients for a perfect day at the beach: Sun + Sand + Nude = A Great Day.

I’m guessing, just guessing that after spending the day nude with others, you’ll see that we’re all pretty much the same. That we have more in common than what divides us. That when you remove your clothing, you remove the stress and anxiety that comes with living in a world where we hide behind our clothing. That is my wish. A wish for a perfect nude year.

Asheville Spa Perfect Spot for First Time Outdoor Nude Experience

Asheville has it all. An amazing food and restaurant scene with first class chefs and breweries. It has a great art culture with fun shops and a funky downtown area. It has the Blue Ridge Mountains all around it with hiking, swimming and vistas everywhere. It also has the amazing Biltmore Estate, which is a great day visit.

When I was researching a visit to Asheville for my wife and me a few months ago, I was surprised by what Asheville doesn’t have… there are no nude or clothing optional B&B’s, guest houses, pools, hikes, lakes or beaches. I have to admit that I was shocked. Asheville is the right kind of place with the right kind of people to truly enjoy and support a nudist location.  Note to any entrepreneurs out there, HUGE OPPORTUNITY HERE. I posted some questions on Twitter and a few nude travel forums and all that was suggested was a nudist club in South Carolina (Carolina Foothills; I haven’t been there but several people recommended it).

Online I found two locations that had some promise. Hot Springs Resort and Spa in Hot Springs, NC and Shoji Spa Retreat in Asheville. Note that if you do an online search for Asheville and skinny dipping, Skinny Dip Falls will come up. Despite the name, there is no skinny dipping options here. 🙂

My wife and I decided to make a reservation at Shoji Spa Retreat which features outdoor, private hot tubs. When I called, I asked if there were any nude or clothing optional locations in Asheville and they told me that their Spa really was it. Although they did say if we went on a hike to a waterfall early in the morning, there was a good chance we’d have it to ourselves and could enjoy a morning skinny dip.

We were really impressed with Shoji Spa. It is a Japanese-style Spa that offers massages too. If we had more time, we would have signed up for a couples massage but instead we enjoyed the hot tub. An hour is really all you need. We were required to shower prior to entering the hot tub. We put on white robes and sandals. It really was a nice experience.

While my wife and I enjoy social nude experiences where we can meet and talk with other couples, the hot tubs at Shoji were private with a wall/fence around each one. This setting is perfect for the couple who wants to try nude recreation without an audience.

Private Doors
Each hot tub is private at Shoji Spa

Each hot tub is bathed in the sunshine with a view down the side of the mountain. You really are in the tree tops without a wandering eye or any attention. We went to the spa after hiking all day and while the water was soothing on our aching muscles, the hot tub was actually a little too hot for a warm, humid Asheville summer’s day. We enjoyed the tub but also sitting on the side of the tub and laying out on the wood deck surrounding it.

IMG_2877
Private, walled hot tubs are perfect for couples who want to enjoy an outdoor nude experience without other guests.

While not the nude experience we were hoping for originally, we really enjoyed relaxing in the late afternoon sunshine and talking about our hikes and visit to Asheville. I would love to be here on an autumn day when the leaves are changing and the air is getting cooler or even better, on a snowy winter day.

IMG_2874
The late afternoon sun streaks through the railing and tree tops.

My wife and I enjoy visiting nude and clothing optional beaches, resorts, B&Bs and clubs while on vacation. For us it’s an opportunity to relax and catch up while spending time together. There is something wonderfully peaceful about feeling the sun’s warming rays all over your body while your spouse is next to you. It isn’t sexual at all. It’s comforting and freeing for us.

Honestly, this is nudity LITE but a good first step. If you and your spouse enjoy this (not sure how you couldn’t), imagine spending time naked together except on a beach or by a pool and with other people around you doing the same. Not really a big leap is it?

IMG_2882

We would highly recommend a visit to Shoji Spa & Lodge. Until someone opens a nude/clothing optional guest house, B&B or pool in Asheville, it’s your only option, but it’s a good one. They do offer lodging options.

We also featured a blog post written by a reader a few years ago on Chozu Bath Garden in Ashland Oregon; another great place to visit.

If this is your first time reading our blog, my wife and I have been going on nude vacations for nearly 20 years. What started as a, “Do you want to try it” discussion when we were dating has turned into many great memories visiting beautiful beaches and resorts around the Caribbean, Pacific and U.S. The purpose of our blog is to provide information to other couples interested in trying nude recreation. It has been a wonderful connection point for my wife and me. It is intimate but not in a sexual way. Sexual touching and intimacy are not appropriate at the nude beaches and resorts we attend. That’s better for time spent together in the privacy of your own room.

Please let us know what you think. Any places we missed that you’d recommend?

Saint Martin’s Happy Bay Beach is the Quiet Nude Alternative to World Famous Orient Beach

Look online and you’ll see a lot about Saint Martin’s world-famous Orient Beach. It really is a wonderful beach to visit and explore. It’s also a must visit beach if you’re looking for a great place to bare it all for the first time with your spouse or partner. Many couples experience social nudity for the first time here. Orient Beach is actually one of five beaches in Orient Bay that together total nearly 1.3 miles of sand and surf paradise for vacationers.

club orient beach resort
The yellow umbrellas, blue ocean and tan boobs and bottoms is a sure sign you’re on Orient Beach in Saint Martin.

In the middle of the day, Orient Beach actually feels crowded. Add cruisers (people from cruise ships) walking in the surf and checking out all of the nude sunbathers who number in the hundreds; naked couples and families enjoying the sun and surf and yes, it is very crowded. While I can tell you the only time you truly stand out on Orient Beach is when you’re wearing a bathing suit, some newbie nude couples might not want to strip with a hundred strangers. Although when you’re comfortable with being naked on Orient Beach, a challenge many nude vacationers try each year is walking the entire beach in the buff.

IMG_0720
Our last trip, I walked all three beaches on Orient Bay in my birthday suit. That’s more than 2.5 naked miles. While many people walk it naked, you have to do it early in the morning before the beach gets crowded.

Although I would still put Orient Beach on your must visit naked bucket list (there really is nothing like it), there are other beaches on Saint Martin that are quieter and more private to explore recreational nudity with your spouse or partner. Happy Bay Beach is a perfect place to drop your swimsuit or bikini bottoms in a quiet and relaxed setting.

IMG_0619
Happy Bay Beach is between Friar’s Bay and Grand Case and is the perfect beach to try skinny dipping or nude sunbathing with your spouse.

Happy Bay Beach is the site of a former resort that was destroyed in a hurricane and never rebuilt. Mother Nature has reclaimed the cabanas and hotel buildings. What’s left is a quiet beach used by families and couples of all ages.

You’ll see it all on this beach. There are couples, gay couples, young families, old couples, vacationing teens from France (this is the French side of Saint Martin), and jet ski tours and sailing boats that stop by the beach throughout the day. On the beach, you’ll see people in conservative and skimpy bathing suits.  You’ll also see women laying out topless and on the North side of the beach, you’ll see mostly nude couples enjoying the sun, peace and quiet.

While Orient Beach is loud and flashy, Happy Bay Beach is relaxed and more intimate. For the couple who are unsure about trying social nudity but want to try it, this is the perfect beach to get comfortable and get naked. Before I show you our pictures so you can enjoy the beach when you visit, here are suggestions for first timers to make the most of their first nude beach experience.

When you get to the beach go right. Head North towards the rocks and away from the BBQ snack and beverage shack. Once you pass the large tree in the middle of the beach, you can find the perfect place to soak up the sun without your bathing suit. There is no bad location. You can remain on the beach or set up your towels closer to the trees and brush at the back of the beach. The choice is yours.

Before you pull down your bathing suit or take off your bikini top, know that everyone who has ever gone naked on the beach remembers the mix of anxiety and excitement you’re feeling right now. It feels like you’re breaking all the rules and yet the thought of taking your suit off is so natural and freeing. It’s exhilarating. I still feel this same sensation every time I step onto a nude beach. The only difference is I know the sense of relaxation, freedom and love that comes from dropping my shorts and relaxing naked with my wife on a beautiful beach like Happy Bay.

Once you get through the anticipation and then the excitement when you take off your bathing suits, you’ll feel a little crazy. You’ll wonder why you felt so much anxiety for something that is so simple and feels so natural. Amazing how good it feels when all you’re wearing is a smile.  In an hour, it will feel like you’ve been doing this your entire life. By the end of the day, you’ll be walking the entire beach in the buff and holding hands playing in the ocean.

Happy Bay Beach is the perfect beach for couples and many return year after year. I believe it could be your favorite nude beach too. So here’s how you find this wonderful beach.

As you’re headed from Grand Case to Frairs Bay, you’ll see a basketball court on your right. Take the first right turn (Rue Happy Bay) after going by the court. You’ll see a gate at the end of the road. This is was the entrance to the resort. If you can, there is a parking lot on the right. If not, park on the street. It’s about a 10-15 minute walk to the beach. It’s on a road/path the entire way that is well marked and not at all strenuous. There is also a path from Frairs Bay but I’ve never taken it and don’t know the route.

Rather than tell you where to go next, I thought our pictures would be best:

IMG_0623
Here is the parking lot for Happy Bay Beach. While we haven’t heard of any problems, it’s probably best to take your valuables with you.

IMG_0610
After parking, there is a path to the right of the gate that will take you to an easy step over the wall and onto the road leading to the beach.

IMG_0613
The trail/road is well marked even as Mother Nature continues to reclaim what remains of the resort.

IMG_0614
You’ll see many of the original hotel rooms and buildings. They’ve seen better days. We stayed clear of them. The road goes by them.

IMG_0616
After going by the resort buildings the road becomes a dirt path and starts to go steadily down to the beach. You’re almost there!

IMG_0617
There is a slight turn in the road and you’ll see the ocean for the first time. Just a few minutes more.

IMG_0618
Finally the trail reaches the beach. From this sign you can go left to the clothed/topless section of the beach or to the right to the nude/clothing optional section. While everyone sets up their towels in different spots, we walked the length of the beach naked. No one cared at all. It really is a friendly, laid back beach.

IMG_0619
This is the north end of the beach, which tends to be nude/clothing optional. Get naked and get comfortable. To me, this beautiful beach captures the very best in a nude beach experience: beautiful, laid back, not crowded, paradise.

IMG_0620
Looking to the south of Happy Bay Beach, you’ll see the rest of the beach where the snack bar and path to Frairs Bay is found.

IMG_0622
Happy Bay has a sand bottom and very little wave action. Each day we were there sailboats anchored and often their guests came ashore for lunch or to play in the waves. Most came on shore naked. Don’t be surprised if you see a few jet ski tours that come by too. Don’t worry about covering up. The tourists usually keep to themselves or drop their suits and go skinny dipping in the ocean.

We brought our lunch, snacks and plenty of wine during our visit. You can also go to the snack bar which provides water, beer, soda and BBQ foods. We of course packed up our trash so that future visitors can see the beach as beautiful and unspoiled as we did.

Regarding nudity and Saint Martin, technically nudity is only permitted on Orient Beach and all beaches can be used top free. There are however many unofficially nude/clothing optional beaches like Petites Cayes,  Cupecoy beach and others. If someone asks you to cover up, you should out of respect for the locals and the law.

Please note that Happy Bay is used by the locals on the weekends and on Sunday’s the Police do patrol the beach to make sure everyone covers up (go to Orient Beach on Sunday’s).

Perhaps even more important is preserving Happy Bay Beach and keeping it natural and pristine. Respect the beach and nature and please don’t leave any garbage. Or better yet, pick up what others have left behind. And while Happy Bay is unofficially clothing optional, it is not a place to get it on with your spouse or partner. Nudity does not mean sex or intimacy. Enjoy your time together naked but keep intimacy for your bedroom. Trust me, after spending the day naked together, your alone time will be extra special later on.

This is the second of three blogs detailing our recent trip to Saint Martin. Look for blogs about another wonderful quiet clothing optional beach called Petite Cayes and a blog post about taking a naked vacation with friends. Have you been to St. Martin? We’d love to hear your thoughts on your experiences on the island and why it’s a perfect destination for couples to try nude recreation.

The Perfect Saint Martin Beach for First Time Skinny Dippers: Petite Cayes

Say “Saint Martin” to any nudist or frequent Caribbean traveler and you’ll immediately hear about the most well-known and popular clothing optional beach in the islands: Orient Beach. It has it all. Beautiful sand. Easy surf. Lots of dining, drinking and lounging opportunities. It also has lots of people on it and to the couple trying nude sunbathing for the first time a crowd can be intimidating.

Orient Beach
The Famous Club Orient Sign on Orient Beach. You’re not in Kansas anymore Dorothy. Here you can drop your bikini and swimsuit and enjoy a fantastic nude experience.

For many nude beach newcomers, Orient Beach is often their first experience. This is probably because of Saint Martin’s French influences (it’s half Dutch and half French) and as a popular cruise ship destination. In reality, while the entire beach is topless, the south end of the beach next to Club Orient is the only nude/clothing optional part of the beach. You can’t miss it. The yellow umbrellas and historic sign greet most visitors before they see their first naked bottom or boob. By the time you’ve walked the beach to Club Orient’s Papagayo restaurant, you’ll have seen what a nude beach like Orient is all about. Couples and families of all ages talking, sleeping, eating, drinking, swimming, and all naked as the day they were born. It’s relaxing and fun.

To the couple ready to drop the swim suit or bikini bottoms and try nude recreation, Orient Beach is a wonderful place to try it. Simply put, you won’t stand out. You’ll be lost in a sea of nakedness. Tan bodies really do seem to blend together when there aren’t any tanlines or bold swim suit colors to make your body stand out. You’ll also have access to liquid courage with lots of bars on the beach and numerous lunch/snack locations.

My wife and I first traveled to Saint Martin nearly 15 years ago and we spent most of our time naked at Orient Beach. It really was wonderful to enjoy our naked time together without the concern of offending anyone or being part of someone’s holiday photo collection.  And while I’d recommend to any couple headed to Saint Martin for the first time to try spending the day nude together at Orient Beach, there are several other less crowded and unbelievably beautiful clothing optional beaches on the island to visit too.

The beginning of our journey to Petites Cayes beach.

I often say how do you make a beautiful beach or resort better… make it clothing optional and then you truly are relaxed.  We’ve also met many wonderful couples through our travels. Many who are friends of ours today. Our nude vacations are our little secrets and Petite Cayes is one of those quiet, secret beaches that most people will never see but to me, capture all that is wonderful about experiencing a nude beach with your spouse and friends.

IMG_0670
Petites Cayes beach near Anse Marcel is a true Caribbean gem and a perfect for a couples first nude beach experience.

So how do you get to one of the most beautiful beaches on Saint Martin? Park next to the trash dump. Believe me it gets better. For those that are willing to take the 30-45 minute hike on the slope of a steep hill and across rocky beaches and terrain, Petite Cayes is paradise. Like most nude or clothing optional beaches we’ve visited, you’ve got to want to be there. For us the hike was just part of the journey and while difficult at times, it was just beautiful scenery.

Rather than tell you about the hike, we thought it best to show it to you. It really is an amazing hike to a fantastic quiet little beach.

IMG_0637
When you start your hike to Petites Cayes beach make sure you have everything you’ll need all day. Remember to bring water, food, suntan lotion/sunblock and extra clothing. Most importantly, remember to pack out whatever you bring in.

IMG_0652 (1)
Views like this one are why I love nude beaches. The beach is the reward. The journey is the adventure. And what an adventure it was.

IMG_0644
The hike is over rocks and steep slopes next to the ocean and beach below. Difficult at times but safe.

IMG_0658
The trail can be a little tough to find but you won’t get lost.

IMG_0659
The views from the trail to Petites Cayes beach are breathtaking. Be sure to bring your camera.

IMG_0661
The views and terrain keep getting better and better. You’re seeing St. Martin’s beautiful coastline and going where few others go to Petites Cayes beach.

IMG_0664
You’re almost to Petites Cayes beach. Final hike is across a rocky beach.

IMG_0667
You’ll know you’ve arrived when you see this stunning view of Petites Cayes beach.

IMG_0668
Welcome to Petites Cayes. Few make the trip but those who do are in for an amazing beach experience.

IMG_0671
Find your own perfect spot on Petites Cayes beach. Go skinny dipping in the waves. Enjoy the sun and sound of the surf. It’s the perfect nude beach experience.

So after your 30-45 minute hike, (there is a second route from Anse Marcel but it is more strenuous), you’ll find yourself on a beautiful half moon beach. Find your spot in the sun and get comfortable. For many first timers, this is the hardest moment. Time to get naked. Take a deep breath and do what you’re comfortable with. Bare as much as you’re comfortable with on the beach or do what I’d recommend. Drop your swimsuit, bikini top and bottom and sit down and apply lots of sunscreen. Remember, body parts that have never seen the sun before tend to burn very easily.

By the time you’re done putting on your sunscreen or suntan lotion, you and your spouse will realize that you’re naked. No one is staring. It feels wonderfully natural. Enjoy the warmth of the sun and breeze on your naked skin. For me, sitting beside my wife and feeling warm all over is one of the most amazingly freeing and relaxing feelings ever. When you’re ready, head down to the surf and splash in the waves. The wave action can get rough depending on weather and time of year. We were able to body surf in the waves.

The day we visited, there were no more than 20 people on the beach at any given time. While we and our friends were the only ones naked the entire time, everyone was friendly and gave each other plenty of space. More than a few other couples hiking to the beach saw us, stripped and went skinny dipping in the water with us. It’s hard not to be friendly when you’re naked.

We enjoyed lunch, snacks and plenty of wine and punch during our visit. We of course packed up our trash (remember, we did park next to the trash dump) so that future visitors could see the beach as beautiful and unspoiled as we did.

Regarding nudity and Saint Martin, technically nudity is only permitted on Orient Beach and all beaches can be used top free. There are however many unofficially nude/clothing optional beaches like Petites Cayes, Happy Bay, Cupecoy beach and others. Perhaps even more important is preserving Petites Cayes and keeping it natural and pristine. Respect the beach and nature and please don’t leave any garbage. Or better yet, pick up what others have left behind. And while Petites Cayes is unofficially clothing optional, it is not a place to live out your beach sex fantasy. Nudity does not mean sex or intimacy. Enjoy your time together naked but keep intimacy for your bedroom. Trust me after spending the day naked together, your alone time will be extra special later on.

This is the first of three blogs detailing our recent trip to Saint Martin. Look for future blogs about Happy Bay Beach and taking a naked vacation with friends. Have you been to St. Martin? We’d love to hear your thoughts on your experiences on the island and why it’s a perfect destination for couples to try nude recreation.
